SmartHunter offers the best solution against modern air threats with the integration of a Manpads/VSHORAD air defence missile system with a long range detection (30km) capability and reliable IFF, fully automated target information and commanding/ network operation.

The SmartHunter system has already been selected and supplied to the Chinese armed forces and also the armed forces of several other countries.

Following the strong interest by the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the producer is keen to provide Thailand with such effective systems.

Jets, Radar to Boost Phl's Territorial Defense

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Air Force (PAF) expects the delivery of several jets and radar equipment for territorial defense during the term of President Aquino.

PAF spokesman Lt. Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol said the acquisitions would boost the country’s defense stance against external threats.

He said six surface attack jets and trainer aircraft; a long-range patrol plane, one air defense radar, and a special mission airplane are expected to arrive in the country starting this year until 2016.

“This is a result of the defense acquisition system and the senior leaders’ meetings that they conduct very often. Hopefully, we will see initial deliveries by 2013 to 2014 or at the most 2015,” Okol said.

The new military equipment would be part of the second phase of the military’s modernization program to be implemented from 2012 to 2016.

The first phase included the acquisition of defense equipment that would improve the Armed Forces’ capability to conduct internal security operations.

The PAF would also acquire eight helicopters, seven attack helicopters, a C-130 cargo plane, and a long-range patrol aircraft and 18 basic trainer planes.

The 18 basic trainer planes have been delivered while others are in various stages of procurement.

The third phase of the modernization program to be implemented after 2016 would involve the acquisition of advanced multi-role fighter jets and long-range patrol aircraft and radars, Okol said.

Four brand new combat utility helicopters from two foreign firms arrived at the former Clark Air Base in Pampanga last month.

The “Sokol” helicopters were purchased from Augusta PZL Swidnik of Italy and Poland.

Four more combat utility helicopters from Augusta PZL Swidnik are expected to arrive in the fourth quarter. The acquisition of the eight helicopters costs P2.8 billion.

The military earlier announced that the first batch of helicopters would arrive in November 2011.

The four helicopters, however, arrived three months after.

The Sokol helicopters have night-vision capability and could accommodate 10 passengers.
The military expects the completion of the delivery of P3.4 billion worth of military hardware this year.

Okol said the PAF also expects the delivery of eight combat utility helicopters, three multi-purpose attack aircraft, equipment for coast watch stations, and 33 multi-purpose rocket launchers for the Presidential Security Group.

Di Jayapura, Morotai dan Manokwari akan Dipasang Radar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA - Sistem pertahanan udara nasional, khususnya di kawasan timur Indonesia terus diperkuat Markas Besar (Mabes) TNI Angkatan Udara (AU). Salah satunya adalah adanya rencana menempatkan tiga radar di Jayapura, Morotai di Kepulauan Maluku dan Manokwari Papua Barat.

Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara, Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat di Timika, Senin (5/3) mengungkapkan, rencana penempatan tiga radar baru tersebut merupakan bagian dari perencanaan TNI AU dimana hingga 2024 memiliki 32 satuan radar pertahanan udara yang tersebar dari Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam hingga Papua.

Selain itu, TNI AU juga memiliki program untuk memasang radar-radar yang lebih kecil untuk dapat mendeteksi sasaran di ketinggian rendah yang tidak mampu terdeteksi oleh radar yang dimiliki saat ini karena khusus berfungsi untuk mendeteksi obyek dalam jarak jauh dan berada di ketinggian.

Hingga saat ini TNI baru memiliki 19 satuan radar, satuan radar ke-19 yaitu satuan radar 243 Timika. Sejauh ini TNI sudah memiliki tiga satuan radar di Papua yakni Biak, Merauke dan Timika yang tergabung dalam jajaran Komando Sektor Pertahanan Udara Nasional (Kosek Hanudnas) IV yang berpusat di Biak, ditambah satuan radar Buraen Kupang NTT dan satuan radar Saumlaki Maluku Tenggara Barat.

"Ke depan kita harapkan seluruh daerah di kawasan timur Indonesia tercover oleh radar yang dimiliki TNI," kata KSAU Imam Sufaat. Ia mengatakan, dengan diresmikannya satuan radar 243 Timika maka mata Komando Sistem Pertahanan Udara Nasional (Ko Hanudnas) akan semakin terbuka sehingga tidak ada lagi ruang terbuka yang bisa dilalui pesawat yang tidak dikenal dan tanpa izin.

"Dengan adanya beberapa satuan radar di Papua termasuk di Timika maka kita punya kewajiban untuk menjaga kedaulatan udara kita sehingga tidak ada lagi satu pesawat yang tidak dikenal atau pesawat asing yang masuk wilayah Indonesia tanpa ijin. Ini menyangkut harga diri atau kedaulatan bangsa," jelas KASAU Marsekal Imam Sufaat.

Satuan Radar Timika Diresmikan

Timika (ANTARA News) - Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Udara Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat meresmikan Satuan Radar 243 Timika yang berlokasi di Kampung Kamoro Jaya-SP1, Timika, Papua, Senin.

Bersamaan dengan itu, Kasau juga melantik Letkol (Lek) Sudirman sebagai Komandan Satuan Radar (Satrad) 243 Timika.

Marsekal Imam Sufaat mengatakan pembangunan Satuan Radar 243 Timika merupakan perwujudan dari program strategis yang telah disusun untuk mengcover situasi dan kondisi serta kerawanan wilayah udara bagian timur Indonesia terhadap pelanggaran udara. Satuan Radar 243 Timika yang berada di jajaran Kosek Hanudnas IV Biak dibangun sejak 2009 di atas lahan seluas 298.786 meter.

Radius jangkauan operasi radar di Timika akan over lapping dengan Satuan Radar 245 Saumlaki bagian barat di Provinsi Maluku dan juga akan over lapping dengan Satuan Radar 244 Merauke di bagian timur Papua.

Dengan telah beroperasinya radar-radar tersebut, maka seluruh wilayah udara Indonesia bagian timur dapat dicover dan tidak ada lagi area kosong yang tidak termonitor radar.

Melalui beroperasinya Satuan Radar Timika ini juga konsep strategis gelar Kosek Pertahanan Udara Nasional IV di wilayah Indonesia bagian timur dapat terus diwujudkan mengingat di wilayah ini terdapat sejumlah obyek vital nasional dan merupakan jalur penerbangan internasional.

Marsekal Imam Sufaat mengakui hingga saat ini kemampuan, kekuatan dan gelar radar TNI AU dibandingkan dengan luas wilayah udara nasional Indonesia belum sepenuhnya mampu memenuhi kebutuhan yang diharapkan.

Dengan keterbatasan jumlah radar yang dimiliki itu mengakibatkan pelaksanaan tugas pengamatan dan pemantauan seluruh obyek yang bermanufer di wilayah udara Indonesia belum dapat dilaksanakan secara maksimal.

Kasau berpesan agar seluruh satuan radar senantiasa melakukan analisis dan pengkajian dalam upaya meningkatkan kemampuan karena fungsi satuan radar sangat vital bagi organisasi perang dalam menjaga kedaulatan negara.

"Radar adalah mata dan telinga yang tidak boleh tidur dan sangat berbahaya apabila tidak mampu menjalankan tugasnya secara maksimal," pesan Imam Sufaat.(E015/M026)

Lockheed Martin Teams with PT CMI Teknologi for Indonesia National Air Space Surveillance Program

SINGAPORE – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] signed a teaming agreement with Indonesian technology firm PT CMI Teknologi to improve airspace surveillance, safety, and management over the Indonesian Archipelago in support of the government’s defense revitalization initiative.

During a signing ceremony at the Singapore Air Show, company representatives agreed to jointly pursue the National Airspace Surveillance – Republic of Indonesia (NASRI) program with the intent to produce more than 40 new TPS-77 and FPS-117 long-range surveillance radars in-country.

“CMI’s strong background in microwave electronics makes them an ideal partner for the manufacture and long-term support of these radar systems in Indonesia,” said James Gribbon, Asia Pacific regional president for Lockheed Martin. “By integrating new sensors with Indonesia’s command and control system, the NASRI network will greatly enhance air sovereignty and surveillance over the country’s more than 17,000 islands, spanning a distance wider than the United States.”

Data feeds from the network will also enhance civilian air traffic control, including commercial air traffic management, which is currently handled by radars in nearby Singapore.

“Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 170 long-range surveillance radars around the world, all of which are still in continuous operation today,” said Rahardjo Pratjihno, CMI president. “Our company and our country’s defense industry will both benefit from this trusting co-production relationship for the NASRI program.”

PT CMI Teknologi of Bandung, Indonesia, is a small, privately-owned technology company specializing in microwave design and manufacturing. The company currently holds contracts for the development and support of Indonesian military radar systems.

Artillery Hunting Radar" was developed by Erricson Microwave Systems, which has been acquired in 2006 by the Swedish Saab group.


The system provides ground units with early warning and accurate location of hostile artillery fires. The radar is effective at ranges up to 40 km, where it can detect small size targets. Within a few seconds of the initial detection, the system plots the launch site for counter-fire, and predicts the point of impact, to alert ground troops which could be endangered by the attack. A number of targets can be tracked simultaneously while search continues. After tracking, the launching position is determined and data on located batteries are transmitted on a data link to the artillery Fire Direction Centre.

New Radar Absorbing Material Manufactured Locally

Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) staff are advancing the progressive application of new radar absorbing material to Australia's Collins class submarine fleet.

The fitment program commenced in 2008, in collaboration with Mackay Consolidated Industries, a Melbourne-based rubber manufacturer. DSTO maritime platforms researcher Dr Andrew Amiet explains that the new radar absorbing material was designed, formulated and tested by electromagnetic signature management specialists.

He says that DSTO is replacing internationally sourced absorbers ‘that proved to be less optimal.’

“The old material showed evidence of deterioration and rust, where it affixed to the Collins. The underlying metal also needed to be treated with hydrofluoric acid, to help affix the absorber,” Dr Amiet says.

In applying the newly developed rubber, DSTO and Mackay Consolidated Industries do not need to rely on hydrofluoric acid treatment – an extremely hazardous substance which requires great care when using.

DSTO has previously worked with Mackay Consolidated Industries on other projects and consulted them again to develop a durable material that meets the Royal Australian Navy’s unique signature management requirements.

“The new material is tested for peel and tear, to help ensure it adheres effectively to the masts.”

“It is designed to reduce the range at which other sea or airborne platforms could detect a Collins class submarine. The effectiveness of the absorber has been validated through measurements performed by electronic warfare and radar experts at DSTO.”

Dr Amiet says that Mackay uses the best, locally derived materials to develop the new Radar Absorbing Material.

“Working with local manufacturers means that the Australian Defence Force and DSTO have the sovereign ability to modify the material, as required, if circumstances or demand change.”

The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) is part of Australia's Department of Defence. DSTO's role is to ensure the expert, impartial and innovative application of science and technology to the defence of Australia and its national interests.

Radar Pantai Menuju Komersial

Januari 2012, lisensi produksi massal radar pantai buatan Indonesia pertama sudah berumur satu tahun. Tantangan bagi PT Inti (Persero), yang menerima lisensi itu dari Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, makin besar untuk memasarkan inovasi teknologi deteksi pantai dan kelautan ini.

Radar pantai buatan sendiri ini sangat kompetitif, dibandingkan radar impor,” kata Kepala Bidang Telekomunikasi pada Pusat Penelitian Elektronika dan Telekomunikasi Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (PPET LIPI) Mashury Wahab, Kamis (5/1), ketika dihubungi di Bandung, Jawa Barat.

Mashury memulai riset pengembangan radar pantai yang diberi nama Isra (Indonesian Sea Radar) sejak tahun 2006. Pada Januari 2011, LIPI memberikan lisensi untuk diproduksi massal oleh PT Inti.

Kepala LIPI Lukman Hakim, pada kegiatan LIPI Expo 2011 bulan November lalu di Jakarta, menyatakan, tidak mudah untuk meyakinkan penggunaan radar pantai produksi dalam negeri ini. Hingga saat itu, belum ada pembelian radar pantai tersebut.

Mashury mengatakan, prototipe radar Isra dibuat sebanyak tiga buah. Dua radar didirikan secara permanen di Pantai Anyer dan Merak. Tujuannya untuk memantau pergerakan dan arus kapal di Selat Sunda.

”Satu prototipe lain dibuat transportable di atas truk. Radar ini bisa dipindah-pindahkan,” kata Mashury.

Penempatan radar pada ketinggian tertentu sangat menentukan jangkauan pemantauan. Pada ketinggian 100 meter di atas permukaan laut, radar Isra bisa untuk memantau wilayah dengan radius 33 kilometer.

Maksimum jangkauan pemantauan radar Isra diperkirakan mencapai 64 kilometer dengan penempatan pada ketinggian sekitar 200 meter. Untuk menyiasati pembuatan menara tinggi yang mahal, penempatan radar dapat dilakukan di puncak-puncak bukit di tepi pantai.

Penyelundupan

Mashury mengatakan, radar pantai sebetulnya banyak dibutuhkan di sejumlah wilayah perairan Indonesia. Radar ini banyak diperlukan untuk mendeteksi penyelundupan atau transaksi ilegal yang merugikan negara.

”Dengan radar ini dapat dipantau transaksi ilegal di atas kapal yang berusaha menghindari proses pajak,” kata Mashury.

Pendeteksian transaksi ilegal di kapal melalui radar dapat ditengarai, misalnya dari pemantauan kapal yang berimpitan. Dua kapal berimpitan yang terpantau di radar dapat diduga melakukan alih muat barang secara ilegal.

”Transaksi ilegal seperti ini banyak terjadi untuk komoditas perikanan hasil tangkapan nelayan kecil,” kata Mashury.

Kapal besar penangkap ikan dapat membeli secara langsung ikan-ikan hasil tangkapan kapal nelayan di atas laut. Dikhawatirkan, transaksi ilegal ini melibatkan kapal-kapal besar milik asing yang sengaja membeli ikan hasil tangkapan nelayan Indonesia secara ilegal.

”Wilayah transaksi perikanan secara ilegal itu mungkin bisa dilakukan di sekitar perbatasan sehingga tidak melanggar hukum. Tetapi, transaksi di atas kapal seperti itu merugikan negara dan selama ini masih sulit dipantau,” kata Mashury.

Menurut Kepala LIPI Lukman Hakim, untuk seluruh wilayah perairan Indonesia, diperkirakan butuh 600 radar pantai. Potensi ini sekaligus menjadi peluang pemasaran radar Isra buatan LIPI. Namun, sejauh ini masih ada kendala persaingan dengan produk impor.

”Para pengusaha yang mendatangkan radar pantai produk impor sekarang juga berupaya supaya produk yang mereka jual bisa kompetitif,” kata Lukman.

Keunggulan

Mashury menjelaskan, radar Isra menggunakan metode frekuensi terus-menerus untuk memancarkan sinyal pemantauan, atau dikenal sebagai Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW). Daya pancar radar Isra rendah, yaitu 1 watt.

”Pengoperasian radar dengan daya pancar rendah ini tidak mengganggu sistem operasional radar lain,” kata Mashury.

Sistem operasional radar lain yang dimaksud misalnya milik otoritas pelabuhan atau kesatuan militer. Keunggulan dengan daya pancar yang rendah memungkinkan pengoperasiannya tidak terdeteksi oleh radar scanner (pendeteksi keberadaan radar).

Keunggulan tersebut menguntungkan untuk berbagai aktivitas atau pengusutan kasus ilegal. Keberadaan radar yang tidak terdeteksi dapat lebih optimal mengungkap berbagai pelanggaran.

Frekuensi kerja radar Isra pada pita X-Band 9,4 gigahertz (GHz) dengan dua antena pemancar dan penerima yang bekerja bersamaan. Untuk meningkatkan jangkauan, selain mengatur peningkatan ketinggian penempatan radar, juga dapat dilakukan dengan peningkatan daya pancar sampai 10 watt.

Radar Isra juga memiliki kemampuan Doppler, yaitu kemampuan untuk mendeteksi benda bergerak, seperti kapal-kapal yang melintasi area perbatasan secara lebih akurat.

Ada pula sistem penelusuran target (target tracking) sesuai Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) yang ditetapkan Organisasi Maritim Internasional (IMO). Hasil pemantauannya dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam jaringan radar untuk memperluas area pemantauan.

”Saya tidak kompeten untuk menyebutkan harga komersial radar Isra. Yang jelas, kemampuannya sama dengan produk impor dan harganya sangat kompetitif,” kata Mashury.

Lebih penting lagi, sudah saatnya pemerintah dan masyarakat meningkatkan penggunaan produk dalam negeri.

Sebagai personel yang bertugas mempertahankan dan menjaga keamanan pangkalan, anggota Paskhas harus selalu siap dan tidak boleh lupa akan bekal pengalaman maupun pengetahuan yang telah didapat selama penugasan, sehingga guna memantapkan kemampuan yang dimiliki setiap anggota, berbagai latihan harus terus dilaksanakan.

Oleh karenanya, anggota Paskhas yang dikenal dengan sebutan “Prajurit Baret Jingga” tersebu, secara rutin melaksanakan latihan menembak menggunakan senapan laras panjang (Presisi) dengan SS-1 VI dan SS1 V2 yang dilaksanakan oleh prajurit Bintara dan Tamtama. Sedangan untuk senapan laras pendek dilaksanakan oleh Perwira dengan tiga sikap tiarap jongkok dan berdiri di lapangan tembak Batalyon 463 Paskhas, Rabu, (4/1).

Pada waktu yang bersamaan Aslog Makorpaskhas, yang diwakili Mayor Psk Tunggul memberikan pelatihan tentang pengoperasian alutsista Radar Smart Hunter kepada anggota Paskhas, sehubungan dengan akan diserahkannya alutsista tersebut ke Batalyon 463 Paskhas yang saat ini dikomandani oleh Letkol Psk Rossen L. Sinaga.

Radar Smart Hunter merupakan senjata Pertahanan Udara yang berfungsi untuk memandu Gunner Rudal Manpat QW-3 dalam menemukan sasaran lawan yang tidak bisa dilakukan oleh penembak secara visual.

TNI AU Targetkan Pasang 32 Radar

Solo (ANTARA News) - Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat mengatakan TNI AU menargetkan program pemasangan instalasi radar di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, hingga 2024 sebanyak 32 unit.

Radar yang berfungsi untuk pengawasan wilayah udara itu, kita sudah mulai `instal` empat unit di Indonesia Timur, dan diharapkan bulan Februari 2012 dapat dioperasikan," kata Kasau usai melantik 97 perwira Setukpa di Pangkalan Udara Adi Soemarmo, Solo, Jateng, Rabu.

Menurut dia, jenis radar buatan Prancis dan Inggris, sehingga membutuhkan anggaran cukup besar. Radar itu, cukup canggih karena juga dapat untuk mengarahkan pesawat terbang menuju sasaran.

Kasau menjelaskan, empat radar tersebut ditempatkan di Indonesia bagian timur seperti di Kupang, Saumlaki, Merauke, dan Biak.

Namun, radar di Timika alatnya sudah datang dan kini sedang diinstal, sehingga untuk wilayah Indonesia Timur bisa diawasi setiap saat.

"Kita terakhir pemasangan radar di Timika, dan ke depan kita programkan empat radar akan dipasang Jayapura, Singkawang Pontianak, Poso, Tabulang," paparnya.

Menurut Kasau, program untuk pemasangan alar tersebut bagi TNI AU hingga 2024 sebanyak 32 unit radar diharapkan dapat terpasang.

"Kami kini baru memiliki 18 unit radar yang tersebar di wilayah Indonesia," ujar Kasau.

Program radar target sebanyak 32 unit tersebut minimal, karena Negara Indonesia sangat luas dan jika ingin diawasi seluruhnya diperlukan alat lebih banyak.

Sehingga, kata Kasau, setiap benda masuk di ruang angkasa wilayah Indonesia bisa terdeteksi, tetapi dengan diperlukan banyak radar memerlukan anggaran sangat besar.

Program pemerintah untuk TNI AU karena anggaran terbatas, sehingga pemasangan dilakukan minimal. "Bila da pesawat asing yang masuk di wilayah Indonesia dapat dimonitor, kalau perlu kita ditegur dan ambil tindakan," ujarnya.

"Hal itu, untuk menjaga kedaulatan dan kehormatan Bangsa kita. Kalau mereka masuk niatnya baik tidak masalah. Namun, jika niatnya jahat kita kecolongan dan harga diri bangsa tercoreng," katanya.

Kasau mencontohkan beberapa pesawat komersil dari negara lain yang masuk wilayah kita tanpa izin bisa dimonitor dan diperingatkan. Hal itu sesuai aturan tidak diperbolehkan dan mereka juga bisa memahaminya.

Exmouth, WA : In a ceremony in Exmouth, Western Australia, representatives of Raytheon Australia and the Department of Defence marked the final transition of responsibility for the company to provide operations, maintenance and support services for the Naval Communications Station Harold E. Holt.

The ceremony marked the culmination of Raytheon Australia’s contract phase-in activities at the facility which have been ongoing since the company first signed its contract with the Electronic Systems Division of the Defence Material Organisation in June this year.

The role of the Naval Communications Station Harold E. Holt is to provide Very Low Frequency (VLF) communications to Australian and United States submarines.

The Managing Director of Raytheon Australia, Mr Michael Ward, welcomed the addition of the contract to the Raytheon Australia portfolio saying that a strong pedigree in site operations management and naval communications positioned the company well to lead support of the Very Low Frequency Communications System into the next phase of its operational life. He added that Raytheon Australia would draw upon the company’s proud record of contract performance to deliver upon its promises to the Commonwealth.

KSAU Resmikan Radar di Saumlaki

Ambon, Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara (KSAU) Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat akan meresmikan satuan radar 245 di Saumlaki, Maluku, Selasa (15/11), guna memperkuat sistem pertahanan di wilayah timur Indonesia.

"Radar ini adalah sarana pemantauan udara yakni suatu sistem dari Kohanudnas (Komando pertahanan udara nasional) yang termonitor dari Jakarta," kata Imam Sufaat di Ambon, Senin malam.

KSAU menjelaskan, dengan beroperasinya satuan radar maka dapat melakukan pemantauan pesawat tempur, peluru kendali, pesawat komersial, maupun pemantauan lainnya seperti penangkapan ikan di laut.

Ia mencontohkan, dengan beroperasinya radar maka kecelakaan pesawat bisa segera termonitor lokasinya.

Satuan radar 245 di Saumlaki yang akan diresmikan pada Selasa (15/11), menurut dia, adalah satuan radar ke 18 dari target 32 satuan radar di seluruh wilayah Indonesia.

Menurut dia, setelah satuan radar 245 di Saumlaki, berikutnya juga akan segera diresmikan satuan radar di Timika, Papua, yang direncanakan pada Februari 2011, kemudian selanjutnya di Jayapura, Morowali, dan Kalimantan.

Sedangkan sebelumnya, kata dia, juga telah diresmikan beroperasinya satuan radar di Merauke, Papua.

Satuan radar lainnya yang telah beroperasi di wilayah timur Indonesia, menurut dia, adalah di Kupang Nusa Tenggara Timur serta di Biak, Papua.

"Jika satuan radar di Saumlaki dan Timika sudah resmi beroperasi maka tidak semakin menguatkan sistem pertahanan udara di wilayah Timur Indonesia. Tidak ada lagi blank spot karena seluruh wilayah timur Indonesia sudah tercover," katanya.

Pada kesempatan tersebut, KSAU mengakui, pembangunan satuan radar di wilayah timur Indonesia agak terlambat dibandingkan dengan wilayah barat dan wilayah tengah Indonesia, karena keterbatasan anggaran TNI AU.

Namun TNI AU, kata dia, bertekad bisa secepatnya membangun satuan radar di seluruh wilayah Indonesia terutama di wilayah timur Indonesia.

Dia berharap pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia terus meningkat atau minimal stabil seperti saat ini yakni 6,4 persen, sehingga anggaran untuk TNI juga bisa lebih baik, guna lebih mengoptimalkan sistem pertahanan seperti satuan radar.

Dalam rangkaian kegiatan peresmian satuan radar 245 di Saumlaki, Maluku, pada Selasa (15/11), sebelumnya KSAU juga menyempatkan diri melakukan kunjungan ke Landasan Udara Hasanuddin di Makassar Selawesi Selatan serta Landasan Udara Pattimura berikut mess prajurit TNI AU di Ambon Maluku, pada Senin.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati Wins Contracts in Thailand for KRONOS Radar Systems

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, has been awarded contracts to supply a KRONOS radar system both to the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Thai Air Force.

The system which will be supplied to the Royal Thai Navy will equip the Royal Navy Air and Coastal Defence Command and be settled in an area in the South of Bangkok. It will be integrated within the air surveillance network of the Royal Thai Navy.

The system which will be supplied to the Royal Thai Air force will be installed in the Eastern region of Thailand and connected with the Royal Thai Air defence system.

KRONOS is a multifunctional radar system able to expand the missile and air defence also against threats today retained insidious for the national security, such as cruise missiles and low altitude UAVs both when these are employed as stand-alone threats for terroristic attacks in peaceful times and when in use in a multiple deployment, which is typical of attacks brought by military enemies.


The system, thanks to its radar provided with an AESA (Active Electronic Scanned Array) antenna, is able to scan the surrounding space to search for targets, so working as a search radar. Once one or more air threats are identified, it can track them with extreme precision and continuity such as a fire control system. These capabilities are deployed simultaneously and in a very fast an automatic manner.

The AESA technology developed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati has made it possible to completely integrate and transport- also in one single vehicle, if required- the radar system, the last generation phased array IFF, a command and control cell equipped with operational posts and all the necessary equipments for an autonomous running. These peculiarities make the system able to defend critical infrastructures and suitable for land tactical applications which require a high level of mobility.

Sistem Pertahanan AS Senilai US$57 Juta Diserahkan ke TNI AL

Pertahanan laut Republik Indonesia (RI) dapat bantuan sistem pengawasan maritim dari pemerintah Amerika Serikat (AS). Sistem serharga US$57 juta ini akan diserahkan Wakil Dubes AS untuk RI pada pemerintah RI yang diwakili pejabat Kementerian Pertahanan di Koarmatim, Ujung, Surabaya, Selasa (25/10/2011).

Integrated Maritime Surveillance System (IMSS) adalah sistem yang terdiri dari tatanan hardware dan personel yang mengintegrasikan sistem komando dan pengendalian (Kodal) dengan memanfaatkan sarana radar dan long range camera pengamatan maritim yang dipasang di pantai/darat, kapal maupun pesawat udara.

Letkol Laut Yayan Sugiana Kadispen Koarmatim TNI AL pada suarasurabaya.net mengatakan sistem ini telah dibangun dan dikembangkan pemerintah AS di wilayah timur Indonesia, tepatnya disekitar perairan Laut Sulawesi dalam rangka kerja sama keamanan maritim dengan pemerintah Indonesia.

“Kegiatan pembangunan IMSS di wilayah Koarmatim ini merupakan kelanjutan kerjasama bilateral antara Pemerintah AS dan Pemerintah RI yang dimulai sejak tahun 2006,” kata Yayan.

Dengan selesainya pembangunan perangkat IMSS ini, maka akan dilakukan penyerahan resmi dari Pemerintah AS kepada Pemerintah RI, kemudian dilimpahkan kepada TNI AL sebagai pengguna.

Dalam kesempatan itu, juga dilakukan unjuk kemampuan operasional seluruh perangkat sistem IMSS yang telah terpasang, melibatkan beberapa Coastal Surveillance System (CSS) yang ada di Pos TNI AL, Shipboards Surveillance System (SSS) di KRI, Regional Command and Control Center (RCC) di Lantamal VIII Manado dan Fleet Command and Control Center (FCC) yang berada di Puskodal Koarmatim. MANILA, Philippines - The Air Force will acquire at least three air defense radars during the term of President Aquino to boost its capabilities in securing the country’s territory.

Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Miguel Okol said the radars would be used to protect the country’s airspace.

“We are looking at two to three radars. These may be placed in traditional areas like La Union or Mindoro or possibly in the West Philippine Sea,” Okol told The STAR in a telephone interview yesterday.

He said they are still estimating the cost of the radars. Officials have yet to finalize the details of the acquisition plan.

“The radars will boost our capabilities for territorial defense. These will enable us to safeguard our airspace,” Okol said.

He said the equipment would also help curb illegal activities like smuggling and human trafficking.

Earlier, Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said the government would implement a P40-billion military modernization project over the next five years starting in 2012.

Abad said the government would earmark P8 billion annually over the next five years for the Armed Forces’ modernization program to boost territorial defense.

The P8-billion annual funding from 2012 to 2016 is higher than the current modernization budget being allotted to the Armed Forces which stands at P5 billion.

The Air Force will get P14 billion of the P40 billion outlay.

Meanwhile, Okol said they expect a “modest yet judicious” upgrade of their aircraft with the arrival of four brand new helicopters in the last quarter of the year.

The helicopters are part of the eight Sokol choppers acquired from Polish firm Augusta PZL-Swidnik last year.

The package cost was P2.8 billion and included training of pilots, maintenance and technical support.

The helicopters will be delivered in November and would be used for combat and search and rescue operations, Okol said.

“The Air Force is making preparations for the arrival of these new aircraft and equipment by continuously honing the skills of its present roster of seasoned pilots as well as skilled maintenance personnel,” he added.

He said the acquisitions are in line with their internal security operation environment called “Horizon 1.”

“The next round of procurement of equipment will be for territorial defense or external defense,” Okol said.

Aside from radars, other equipment to be used for external defense are lead-in fighter trainer aircraft, surface attack aircraft, light lift transport, a C-130 cargo plane and attack helicopters.

Okol said their project management teams have identified the requirements and will soon submit them to the Defense department for bidding.

Other items to be acquired under Aquino’s term are strategic sealift vessels with amphibious vessels, offshore patrol vessels, naval helicopters, coast watch stations, and weather-heavy endurance cutters for the Navy.

The Army, on the other hand, would be provided with new assault rifles, armor assets, tanks, armored personnel carriers, force protection equipment like helmets, and bulletproof vests, night-fighting equipment and radios.

‘Minor triumph’

MalacaƱang described yesterday as a “minor triumph” President Aquino’s visit to China where his counterpart Hu Jintao shared his wish for a more binding Code of Conduct in the West Philippine Sea.

“The fact that we’re all saying we want to get to that point is already, I think, a minor triumph for all of the countries. In effect, we hope what this will do is it will lead to a lessening of tensions when it comes to these issues,” said Secretary Ricky Carandang of the Presidential Communications for Strategic Planning and Development.

Aside from the Philippines and China, other claimant-countries in the disputed Spratly Islands include Vietnam and Malaysia.

“We did not expect to have a resolution to this in one meeting, and it’s not a resolution that the Philippines and China can reach on their own because there are other claimant countries. So it has to be done in that framework,” Carandang said.

At present, China wants to resolve the issue bilaterally with each claimant country but the Philippines is proposing a multilateral approach.

Australian Made Radar Latest Weapon in Navy’s Arsenal

Navy’s new anti-ship missile defence radar system has been released for initial operational use after achieving outstanding results from the trial of the system off the coast of Australia and Hawaii.

The new multi-phased array radar system has been installed on the Anzac-class frigate HMAS Perth.

The radar identifies, tracks and guides missiles to multiple targets at the same time.

Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare inspected the radar at work on-board HMAS Perth while it was conducting training exercises off the coast of Western Australia.

“This is the latest weapon in Navy’s arsenal. It means our Anzac frigates will be a lot more capable,” Mr Clare said.

“At the moment our Anzac frigates can track and destroy one target at a time. This new radar means they will now be able to track and destroy multiple targets at the same time.

“This is also a great Australian success story. It’s cutting-edge technology developed right here in Australia by CEA Technologies.”

Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Ray Griggs said HMAS Perth had just returned from testing the system on the United States Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii with tremendous results.

“The tests proved that the new system can defend the ship from modern cruise missile attack. This is a significant enhancement for the Anzac-class frigates.”

HMAS Perth is the lead ship in this project. Following the successful testing of the system on this ship, the Government will soon make a decision about upgrading the other seven Anzac-class frigates.
